'Victory close for Bahrain, Yemen'

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of Iran's Armed Forces Major General Hassan Firouzabadi says final victory for the people of Yemen and Bahrain is not far away. Speaking at the graduation ceremony of Iran's Supreme National Defense University, Firouzabadi said on Monday that Bahrainis are suffering and the condition of Yemenis is no better.

“A worse form of what we had [read about] in history about the oppression and tyranny of past rulers worse is [taking place] in Bahrain and Yemen,” IRNA quoted him as saying.

Firouzabadi, who is also a member of the Supreme National Security Council, added that time is of essence in cultural developments in every society.

He added that if the elite come to the help of their nations, victory would be close.

Since mid-February 2011, Bahraini protesters have been holding anti-government protests demanding an end to the rule of the Al Khalifa dynasty for its despotic governance, discrimination, and the suppression of any dissent.

The US-backed regime has met the popular protests with a brutal crackdown, killing scores and arresting hundreds.

Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch have severely criticized Bahrain for its violence against protesters as well as the doctors, nurses, lawyers and journalists who have voiced support for the protest movement.

According to local sources, countless people have been killed or arrested in the government crack down on peaceful demonstrations.
