Yemenis celebrate Eid al-Adha

Tens of thousands of anti-regime protesters gathered in the capital Sana'a to mark the Muslim feast of Eid al-Adha and to continue their protests against the long-time ruler Ali Abdullah Saleh. The Eid prayers was followed by a massive street demonstration with Youth protesters continuing their calls for the fall of the regime and the prosecution of all those involved in the killing of peaceful protesters.

Following the Islamic awakening that has swept the region, Yemeni protesters stressed that their revolution will be an Islamic revival, one which will free Yemen form dictatorship, and replace it with an Islamic government implementing Sharia law.

Since January, Yemeni cities have been the scene of daily protests inspired by the overthrow of the governments in Tunisia and Egypt. Hundreds of people have been killed in government's violent crackdown which sees no sign of coming to an end.

The UN Security Council has called on Saleh to step down immediately, however he has so far failed to implement a political solution based on deal brokered by Persian Gulf states which urged him to hand over power.

Two and half months ago, protesters joined here for the first Eid Holiday of the year, and called for the prosecution of Saleh and his remnants. They have joined here in the second Eid Holiday after the day of Arafah to continue their protests despite the ongoing government's violent crackdown.
