GENEVA (AP) — The International Committee of the Red Cross says two of its staff members and a Yemeni Red Crescent worker were kidnapped while traveling in the country's restive south Tuesday.Marcal Izard, spokesman for the Red Cross in Geneva, says one of the staff kidnapped is a driver while the other is a foreign delegate.

Yemen colonel killed as dissident tribesmen overrun base

A top Yemeni army officer was killed in battle between elite troops and dissident tribesmen who took over a strategic military base north of Sanaa, the defence ministry and tribal sources said Monday. "Colonel Abdulsalam al-Sufyani, head of operations of the Third Brigade" was killed in an attack on the brigade's base in Arhab, 40 kilometres (25 miles) north of the capital, defence ministry reported.
The attack was carried out by "armed militias from the First Armoured Brigade (led by dissident General Ali Mohsen al-Ahmar), the Muslim Brotherhood Al-Islah (reform) party, and Al-Ahmar terrorist gangs," said the site.

Yemeni Protester Clash With Republican Guard Leaves 7 Dead

Nov. 2 (Bloomberg) -- Clashes in the Yemeni city of Taiz left seven people dead, as hundreds of thousands gathered in the capital, Sana’a, to urge the International Criminal Court to try President Ali Abdullah Saleh and members of his government.

The fighting between armed protesters and members of the Republian Guard in Taiz injured 21 people, activist Ahmed al- Wafi said today by phone from the southern city. Government forces shelled several areas with mortars and tanks, including a protest camp dubbed “Freedom Square,” he said.
