Al-Qaeda kills 20+ for being US spies

At least 20 people accused of spying for the United States were executed by suspected al-Qaeda militants in southern Yemen, a local tribal leader told the Kuwaiti newspaper As-Sayassa on Wednesday.

GENEVA (AP) — The International Committee of the Red Cross says two of its staff members and a Yemeni Red Crescent worker were kidnapped while traveling in the country's restive south Tuesday.Marcal Izard, spokesman for the Red Cross in Geneva, says one of the staff kidnapped is a driver while the other is a foreign delegate.

Al-Qaeda: Crimes Against Humanity

Ahmed al-Qurashi, the director of al Seyaj organization for the Protection of Children in Yemen recently warned against al Qaeda's offshoot's new plan of recruiting children for its operations as they happen to be easily manipulated and more pliable than adults. In essence al Qaeda said al-Qurashi is brainwashing the children to do their biddings, with total disregards to their well-being, only thinking of serving their violent "ideology" and promoting a biased understanding of Islam. Al-Seyaj organization was founded in 2008 to protect, document and expose crimes and violence against children in Yemen and provide legal assistance when required.

Two reportedly killed in blast in Yemen's restive South

Two Yemeni tribesmen were killed and five others wounded in an explosion in a village in the restive southern province of Abyan, a stronghold of Al-Qaeda, tribal sources told AFP. "Seven of our armed men were wounded by an explosive device in Mudia, and two of them died of their injuries," one of the sources, who asked not to be identified, told AFP.

20 Extremists killed in Southern Yemen

A tribal chief told Reuters that 11 extremists killed in Abyan as the Yemeni army shelled their hideouts with artillery on Monday. The Yemeni Ministry of Defense said on its website that the security forces killed three Al-Qaeda-linked militants.

Yemeni official: Army kills at least 10 militants

CAIRO (AP) — A Yemeni official says security forces have killed at least 10 al-Qaida-linked militants in a battle near the town of Zinjibar, the capital of the southern Abyan province. The official said the 10 were killed during heavy fighting Tuesday between government forces and Islamic militants who have seized the town.

Five Qaeda suspects killed in south Yemen

ADEN — Five Al-Qaeda suspects, among them an Indonesian, were killed in artillery shelling on their strongholds in Yemen's south, a government official said Tuesday. "Two Al-Qaeda gunmen were killed in artillery shelling by the army in Zinjibar," the official in the nearby town of Jaar, where their bodies were taken, told AFP.

Six militants killed in south Yemen clashes-official

ADEN Nov 7 (Reuters) - Six militants were killed in clashes with Yemeni government forces in the volatile southern province of Abyan, a local official said on Monday, raising to 11 the number of Islamists killed in the area in two days.

Two Yemen soldiers killed in clashes with militants

ADEN — Two Yemeni soldiers were killed in overnight clashes with suspected Al-Qaeda fighters near the militant stronghold of Zinjibar, a military commander said on Sunday. An army unit, which attempted to move into the Ba Jidar neighbourhood in the east of the southern city, came under heavy fire from the militants of the Qaeda-linked Partisans of Sharia (Islamic law) group who have held the Abyan provincial capital since May, the commander said.

Five al Qaeda militants killed in southern Yemen

Sanaa, Yemen (CNN) -- Five suspected al Qaeda militants were killed in clashes Friday night in Yemen's southern Abyan province, a senior Defense Ministry official told CNN. The official, who is not authorized to talk to media, said that the government's 25th Brigade in Zinjibar shelled hideouts used by militants as a base to launch attacks against security forces.

Report: Al-Qaeda militants attack Yemeni officials

Cairo - Al-Qaeda militants were believed to be behind an attack that targeted a member of Yemen's consultative council and an army colonel in the southern Yemeni province of Abyan, Arab media reported Thursday. The two men were wounded when their vehicle came under fire while they were heading towards the capital Sanaa, Doha-based Al Jazeera television said. 
Militants, suspected of belonging to al-Qaeda, opened fire with a barrage of bullets at the car of Mohammed al-Haithami Ashal, wounding him in the leg, the broadcaster said.

Al-Qaeda Gaining Ground in Yemen

A lot of reports have been carried out about Al-Qaeda operations in Yemen lately. A sticky bomb exploded this morning near Aden International Airport; leaving one policeman dead and four others injured as reported by Xinhua. Today's attack comes after two days of a car bomb attack that killed the chief of counter-terrorism unit in Aden.
Early this week, six Yemeni soldiers were killed in attack allied to Al-Qaeda in Aden. Today Al-Qaeda denied death of  its media officer, Al-Banna, and claimed responsibility for the gas pipeline bombing in Balhaf mid October.
