Son & Nephew of Yemeni Outgoing President Leave Yemen

The chief of Yemen Republican Guards, Ahmed Ali Abdullah Saleh, son of the Yemeni outgoing president and the deputy of national security, Saleh's Nephew, left the country today in mysterious circumstances since the uprising began last February.  Ahmed headed to the US where Ammar left to France.

In a meeting with the general manager of Yemen LNG, Mr. Francois Rafin, the Yemeni prime minister stressed the economic importance of LNG project and the need to employ its revenues to boost the national economy. 

Yemen to hold Presidential Election Next Feb

The Yemeni Vice President issued a decree to hold an early presidential election in Feb 21, 2012.  This decision comes only few days after signing the GCC power-transfer deal by Saleh and opposition leaders in Riyadh.

Increase in Yemen's oil revenues and decline in local consumption

An official report said that Yemen's crude oil revenues reached $2.7 billion for the period January through September, 2011; showing a significant increase from $1.9 billion for the same period in 2010.  A recent report issued by Yemen Central Bank shows the bulk of exported oil values is used for purchasing petroleum productions through Aden refinery. 

HRW calls for freezing the assets of Yemen's Saleh and his aides

The Yemeni revolutionaries welcomed Human Rights Watch's call for freezing the assets and placing a travel ban on president Saleh and his top aides as pro-Saleh forces committed crimes and human rights violation during the uprising. The Yemeni revolutionaries called on all international organizations concerned with human rights to help them prosecute and impose sanctions on Saleh and his top aides.

Main Points of GCC implementation mechanism

The Yemeni President and the opposition leaders signed the GCC power-transfer deal and its implementation mechanism on Wednesday in Riyadh.


The mechanism stipulates that a national unity government shall be formed within 14 days from the date of signature; the JMP to nominate a candidate who will chair the new-formed government; the ministerial portfolio should be divided on a fifty-fifty basis between the GPC and the JMP; forming a ministerial committee for security and defense affairs within 14 days chaired by Vice President and will have the tasks of restructuring and solving all matters related to  the armed and security forces; the new-formed government shall form a ministerial committee to conduct dialogue with the youth in change squares and civil society organization; holding an early presidential elections within 90 days of signing the deal and Hadi shall be nominated as a consensus presidential candidate; the parliament to convene within 30 days and approve the immunity blank to President Saleh and all those worked under his office as stipulated in the GCC power-transfer deal.


The second phase of the implementation mechanism lasts for two years and it stipulates forming an inclusive national dialogue conference of all effective parties in Yemen, which will address all issues related to creating a new Yemen.

Saleh heads to NY for Medical Treatment after signing the power transfer deal, UN Secretary General

The UN Secretary General stated that the Yemeni President will head to NY for medical treatment after signing the GCC Initiative. The AFP quoted the UN Secretary General in a statement to journalists that he had a telephone conversation with the Yemeni President, and the later stated that he will head to NY for medical treatment after signing the GCC Initiative.

Yemeni Youth: "Criminal Saleh Sign the GCC Conspiracy"

As a first reply to signing the implementation mechanism of the GCC brokered-power transfer deal by the Yemeni President in Riyadh today, the Yemeni youth in freedom squares across Yemen are chanting angrily, "Criminal Saleh is signing the GCC conspiracy".

Yemen's Saleh to Stay in KSA permanently after signing the GCC Initiative

A Yemeni presidential source told CNN Arabic that the Yemeni president is intending to stay in Saudi Arabia permanently after signing a GCC brokered power transfer deal.  There are doubts that the Yemeni Presidents will sign the deal as he has backed up six times at the last moment.

Clashes renewed as Yemen's Saleh to sign the power transfer deal

Sporadic clashes between Yemeni army and Al-Ahmar supporters renewed in Sana'a. Heavy gunfire is heard nearby Sana'a Change Square. Many reports were also quoted as saying that fierce clashes renewed between pro-revolution gunmen and the Yemeni forces in Taiz. These incidents come just after numerous reports that Saleh will sign the GCC Initiative in Riyadh today, aimed at easing the president of his power in exchange of immunity from prosecution. 

20 Extremists killed in Southern Yemen

A tribal chief told Reuters that 11 extremists killed in Abyan as the Yemeni army shelled their hideouts with artillery on Monday. The Yemeni Ministry of Defense said on its website that the security forces killed three Al-Qaeda-linked militants.

Aden Refinery to Shut down in Four Days

The Yemeni Oil Minister in the caretaker government warned that Aden refinery will completely shut down in four days due to the cessation of pumping crude oil and the financial difficulties to import from abroad to meet the needs of the local market.

Tribal Men Blow up an Oil Pipeline in Yemen

Armed tribal men blew up the main export pipeline in Marib northeast of Yemen on Friday evening for the second time in weeks. Tens of armed tribal men from Tuaman tribe blew up the main export pipeline in the Sirwah region of Marib province, setting the pipeline to fire, a tribal chieftain told UPI.

Yemeni Citizens and right activities called on the Yemeni People to stage a demonstration tomorrow in front of the UN Office in Sana'a, urging the UN Special Envoy (Benomar) to intervene in order to restore electricity supply in Sana'a. The Yemeni people have been suffering from constant power cuts since the beginning of the uprising.
